St Lucia Estuary is situated in the north-east part of South Africa in the province KwaZuluNatal on the Elephant Coast. (Indian Ocean). The South African border with Mozambique is about 180 km (straight line) north of St Lucia. The distance to Johannesburg is about 600 km, to Durban 260 km. To the harbour city Richards Bay is 70 km. to the south of St Lucia.  

 

Serene-estate Guesthouse is situated at the border of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park in St Lucia Estuary. The Indian Ocean is nearby, only 300 meters away.  

 

If you come from Johannesburg by car:

 

  • Take the N 2 South (7 hours drive)
  • In Mtubatuba turn left (R618) and follow the signs to St Lucia (25 km)
  • You enter St Lucia by crossing the bridge over the estuary
  • At the T-junction you turn right into  McKenzie Street. You pass Spar Supermarket at your  left side
  • When you see a small ticket office and Wimpy at your left side, turn left into Dolfyn Street
  • Take third street to the right into Hornbill Street
  • Serene-estate Guesthouse is at your left side after a few hundred meters
  • You can park your car at the front side

 

If you come from Durban by car:

 

  • Take the N2 North in the direction Pongola / Empangeni (2 -2.5 hours drive)
  • In Mtubatuba turn right (R618) to St Lucia 
  • You enter St Lucia by crossing the bridge over the estuary  
  • At the T-junction turn to the right into the main street: McKenzie Street. You pass the Spar Super market at your left side
  • When you see a small ticket office and Wimpy Restaurant at the left side, turn left into Dolfyn Street
  • Take third street to the right into Hornbill Street
  • Serene-estate Guesthouse is at your left side after a few hundred meters
  • You can park your car at the front side and come to the reception

If you come by plane:

 

  • Take a domestic flight from Johannesburg International Airport to Richards Bay. You can rent a car at the airport and drive on the N2 northly (50 minutes drive to St Lucia), see above from Durban. As an alternative we can organise a transfer from Richards Bay airport to St Lucia Estuary. Then you are able to rent a car in St Lucia.
  • Take a domestic flight to Durban (accessable from most domestic airports in South Africa like Cape Town,  Port Elisabeth, George, Nelspruit etc.). From Durban follow the mentioned route above (about 2 hours drive).
